TdE is Indonesia's longest professional road cycling race. The race covers approximately 1,500 kilometers over 10 stages. It lasts longer than similar events such as Tour de Singkarak (8 days), Tour de Indonesia (8 days), and Tour de Ijen (4 days). One hundred cyclists from 20 professional teams participate, including 14 international and 6 domestic teams.
This is the only race that traverses three major islands—Timor, Sumba, and Flores—showcasing their diverse cultures, traditional weaving, unique vernacular architecture, and stunning landscapes. The route passes through the hot regions of Timor, Sumba, and eastern Flores, as well as the cooler highlands of Bajawa and Ruteng in Flores.
The route also crosses two Indonesia–Timor Leste border posts (PLBN - Pos Lintas Batas Negara): Wini in South Central Timor Regency and Mota’ain in Belu Regency.
